Gorgeous Old Pink & Blue Oyster Platter Server

$135 USDGorgeous Old Pink & Blue Oyster Platter Server

Pottery:Majolica:French
This gorgeous majolica oyster platter is unlike any I’ve run across before. It would probably be more correct to call this a coquillage, as the shells depicted are scallop, not oyster. It is a 12 well handled platter glazed in shades of blue, green, and rose. It measures 16” long, 8” wide, and the handle stands 3 ½” tall. The base is finished in the traditional majolica green/brown mottled glaze. It has no mark at all, and I didn’t have a clue about it when I found it while on a buying trip to ...

These were produced at the renowned St. Clement faiencerie near Luneville, France. This pattern of plate was very popular during the twenties and this one dates to that period. It is a lovely example with the deep crisp molding and gorgeous soft coloration that St. Clement is known for. This measures 8 ½” in diameter. It is in superb condition with no chips, cracks, ...

$50 USDSuperb Vintage 1920 French Majolica Sarreguemines PV Pear Fruit Plate

Pottery:Majolica:French
This is one of Sarreguemines most popular patterns and they made, and exported, a great deal of them. It was so popular in fact that many other makers copied them, so the collector must examine the plates closely to be certain they are Sarreguemines, and that they are older. One of the companies that imported these into the United States was Mitteldorfer Straus, who contracted with some of the most well-known potteries throughout Europe from the late 1890’s to the 1930’s and marketed them here ...

Fine Antique French Majolica Provence Faience Cicada Wall Pocket Vase

$125 USDFine Antique French Majolica Provence Faience Cicada Wall Pocket Vase

Pottery:Majolica:French
I just adore this whimsical guy! This majolica wallpocket is another treasure found during a recent buying trip to France. The cicada is a symbol of good luck and appears all over the region of Provence, in the Côte d’Azur in France. You see ceramic cicadas such as this one frequently attached to doorposts to bring good fortune to the occupants. The tradition started back in 1895 when a Provençal businessman commissioned a local potter to create a pottery cicada he could use as a corporate, ...

I am very pleased to offer this stunning example of a French majolica asparagus server. This features a ridged row of green, purple, yellow, and cream glazed asparagus tied with honey colored twine and laying on a cream and green glazed bowl. It measures 14” long, 8 ½” wide, and 2 ½” tall. It likely dates to between 1930 and 1950’s. It is not marked at all except with the impressed number 8940. Although I found this on a buying trip to France, I was not convinced that it was a French piece. Then ...
