Gorgeous Antique Austrian Majolica Figural Monk Smoke Set

$350 USDGorgeous Antique Austrian Majolica Figural Monk Smoke Set

Pottery:Antique:Majolica:Austrian
What a lovely treat this one is! A traditionally garbed monk robed in charcoal gray with a mulberry skullcap holds an over-sized blue pitcher bearing the initials KB. (Anyone have any ideas what the initials might stand for? If so, please email me and let me know!) The monk stands before a trough shaped ashtray glazed in marbled dove gray, pewter and pink. He stands on a base of mossy cut stones glazed in shades of black, gray, brown, and green, with three baskets for holding smoking ...
Superb Old European Majolica Figural Tyrolean Man Humidor Tobacco Jar

$125 USDSuperb Old European Majolica Figural Tyrolean Man Humidor Tobacco Jar

Pottery:Antique:Majolica:Austrian
I am very pleased to offer this superb example of a Victorian figural majolica humidor—in the guise of a man in Tyrolean garb. Similar pieces, no doubt made by the same manufacturer as this one, can be seen on page 47 of Jeffrey B. Snyder’s Marvelous Majolica. He states that these pieces represented “local color” around town. This is one of several pieces acquired from the collection of a noted Chicago collector and antique dealer who began his collection in the 1930’s. He measures 5 ¼” tall and ...

$125 USDStunning Antique Austrian Majolica Brothers Urbach Figural Shepherd Girl Candlestick

Pottery:Antique:Majolica:Austrian
This stunning majolica candlestick was made by the Brothers Urbach in Turn-Teplitz, Austria. It is one of a pair consisting of this one and her young male companion. So be sure to see my item #RL0507077 to see her handsome mate! This dates to between 1882 and 1906. The Brothers Urbach produced very high quality majolica to compete with other continental manufacturers such as Wilhelm Schiller & Sons and fine English producers such as Minton. The detail on the face and clothing of the girl is ...

$385 USDSuperb Antique Bohemia Austrian Majolica J. Moehling Figural Well Smokeset

Pottery:Antique:Majolica:Austrian
What a treat this one is! This is a gorgeous example of the traditional Victorian smokeset in the form of a well or cistern with a barrel and a wagon wheel propped beside it, a rope draped over its corner, and a bird perched on the spigot. It is glazed allover in a warm honey/caramel color and subtly accented with gilt. This was made by Johann Moehling, who opened a pottery in Aich, Bohemia, Austria (which later became Czechoslovakia) in 1849. His pottery was in business only until 1875. He is ...

Pottery:Antique:Majolica:Austrian
What a treat I have for you here! This is precisely the sort of thing for which Julius Dressler, is rightly famous—specialty food service pieces of majolica . His are, without a doubt the most fanciful and fun, and this one is no exception. In the form of a stylized leaf glazed in shades of green with a chocolate brown twig-form handle wrapped with ivy and cotton candy pink wells for the eggs and condiments—it’s a truly eye-catching piece. This was made by Julius Dressler at Biela, Bohemia in ...

Pottery:Antique:Majolica:Austrian
What a gorgeous piece I have for you here! This very classically styled vase is glazed in the muted colors of which the Brothers Urbach were so fond. Alternating columns of warm honey brown bands with a criss-cross and floral design separate indented narrow panels of pale cream decorated with floral scrollwork glazed in dove gray, charcoal gray and tan.
