Georgian French Miniature Alter of Love & Fidelity Love Token

Our lovely miniature dates to the late 1700’s to the early 1800’s. Nothing can match the quality and exceptional painting of this love token. The scene is painted on opalescent glass. A beautiful maiden with a flowing gown stands next to an alter with the words “Alter of Love” written in French. Two doves play above the alter. The maiden is petting her dog (a symbol of fidelity). There appears to be a piece of coral setting at her feet, but I am not sure. Coral wards off evil spirits. The miniature is set in gold. Not marked but tested gold. This may have been in an ebony frame at one time, or on the top of a vanity box. Measures 2.5 inches. An exceptional work of art.
