Circa mid 1800’s. This little miniature depicts a very sentimental scene with a nude woman in her garden with two winged cherubs and two love birds at her feet. There is something interesting about the two birds in that in her right hand she holds a leash that is attached to one of the love birds. This must mean something in the artists mind. Our lovely miniature dates to the late 1700’s to the early 1800’s. Nothing can match the quality and exceptional painting of this love token. The scene is painted on opalescent glass. A beautiful maiden with a flowing gown stands next to an alter with the words “Alter of Love” written in French. Two doves play above the alter. The maiden is petting her dog (a symbol of fidelity).
