The case is ever so slight pale yellow with pink roses and blue forget-me-not posies. The metal appears to be several metals combined….some silver, brass, and copper. It is not sterling. The case is in good condition except in three corners where there is some enamel missing (see photos). It really doesn’t detract from the overall aesthetic beauty of the case. I am not sure how these work but I saw one similar on an antique card that stated that they were used to hold the large hats of the early 1900’s on top of the heads of the ladies that wore the large Gibson hair style upsweeps. These are two different types. The one on the right is marked “F. M. Co. Pat. 4-25-05” and has a c-clasp mechanism on the reverse side. It measures 4.25 inches long. Finding its way from the late 1800’s this album is so very lovely. If it weren’t for the crackling of the celluloid top it would be in excellent condition. The velvet on the binding and back is only a bit faded along the edges otherwise a crisp green floral pattern with no wear.
