Interesting FOB with Chilean Coin Charm

I'm not really sure what this is - some sort of FOB or keychain, I suspect. I find it quite interesting though as it has two convex coins that are attached to form a big orb. They are about the size of a US quarter and are marked "Republica De Chile" - no other markings so maybe they are some sort of token and not a coin? They are attached to the brass piece you see here - not sure if they were that way originally but that's how they were when I got them so that's how they're going out! Excellent condition!
