Such a gentle smile on this sweet little girl's face! This is another one of several Victorian Photographs of this little girl Catherine that have been listed in this shop and one of the last few left. Here she is pictured in a very intricately carved chair that was used in several of the studio photographs during what appears to be the same sitting. There are two of these photographs which allow us to see more of the chair's details because Catherine sits on the arm of the chair. The design of the chair alone makes these photographs ones of interest. Young Catherine sitting on the chair arm smiling sweetly in this one, or "reading" a book in the other, adds another dimension of appeal to these pictures. These would look nice framed and hung beside of each other. In both of the photos she is wearing a white ruffled dress that she has worn in photographs year after year which changed in fit as she grew. I had initially estimated Catherine's age in the pictures of this sitting as maybe 5 or 6 years old (which would have dated the photograph around 1905), but actually in perspective of some of the other dated pictures, I believe she is closer to three or four making the photograph a few years older than originally thought. Currently, still available, there are other photos of her as an Infant, an older baby, and others as a little girl probably taken the same day as this one. After purchasing this lot of pictures, I was able to track a small portion of Catherine and her older brother Hugh's lives from infant to young adulthood. THIS PHOTOGRAPH IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. The actual photo measures approximately 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" and comes affixed to a heavier stock studio portrait paper that measures 11" x 7 7/8" and is within a well cared for studio folder that is "hinged" with a bow closure.
