"Ohhh it's just to die for!" is generally not my word choice...but here it fits! I'm so excited to offer this Collins of Texas design; "Fly Away" which is quite an uncommon find ...and to find it in this Excellent Condition...even more rare! This purse has been maintained in absolute Excellent Condition. Not a mark or stain to be found on the burlap like fabric or the Mahogany base! The brown leather trim and handles are also in Excellent Condition. All of the jewels are intact. Many of the jewels are iridescent including those of the Blue Bird giving it a delightful glow. The bucket styled hand bag has the Collins signature on the bottom right and the name of the design on the bottom left. Inside, it carries the horse logo as well as the Collins Copyright and even the inside is without a mark! The purse measures 10 1/2" tall and 8 3/4" wide. The amber jewels and brown leather make this bag a beautiful selection for Fall & Winter. This is an extraordinary gift for the purse collector and more specifically for Enid Collins' fans. Christmas will be here before you know it! (Please see other Enid Collins purses listed. Thank you!)
A LITTLE HISTORY....
Enid Collins of Medina, Texas began what became a whirl wind of glory right from her home in the very late 1950's. Her personally designed purses with sparkling "jewels," and designs that often included "critters" became such a hit that her business grew and grew and grew until she received an offer, too good to turn down, from the Tandy Leather Corporation. She sold her company in 1970 and the bags continued under Tandy. Her signature which had often been the simple "ec" changed to include the well known horse and Collins name. The lovely and incredible "Fly Away" purse above reflects a "Collins of Texas" signature used by Tandy after the buy out. Still, the Enid Collins designs and purses proliferated and continued to grow with millions more fans and followers. I read in someone else's history of the Enid Collins Purses that an "Oooo..." escapes the lips of every woman when they pick up their first bag. I would have to agree and add that obviously it doesn't stop with the first purse, the "Ohhhhs and Ahhhs " still continue today no matter whether it's your first Collins purse or your 100th. The purses stopped production in the 70's several years after the buy out. The fan club remains and continues to grow!
