On first glance this Victorian Antique Dresser Jar appears opaque like most Milk Glass but when held up to the light, it is translucent and offers some of the fiery glow that is characteristic of Opal Ware and Opaline Glass. A hand painted pattern of cherries (or possibly red berries ) is completely intact. Only a very few minor specks of white shows through the chocolate brown edging. The hinged brass rim and hasp have a wonderfully darkened patina with a small dark spot or two. The clasp and hinge are in good working order. The glass covered jar was likely used on a vanity for cream or powder but it is certainly a perfect piece of the past to act as a small jewelry box or trinket box now. There are no chips, cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind--Excellent Condition. The box measures slightly over 3" in diameter at the widest point and 1 1/2" tall. It's a treasure!
