Happy Holidays! FALL & HOLIDAY WINTER SALE! MORE Prices Reduced! Updated LAYAWAY Plan!...We're all in this together...
For all of us lovers of Poetry, this little antique textbook is a nice find! The book measures only 6 5/8" x 4 3/8". This is a second edition, originally published in 1900, this 1919 revised edition added "Study Helps." The 173 page book includes an introduction to John Milton, who he was, his life, a look at his association with Puritanism, and also an introduction to each of his works included in the study. His writings published here that were considered his Minor Poems included : "L'llegro," "IL Penseroso," "Comus," and "Lycidus." Also included are a section of explanatory notes, a word index, a section discussing Theme subjects, and as mentioned "Helps to Study." The student who used this book has also left us notes in pencil (see photos). In the very back she has left us some minor doodling but nothing which destroys the nature of the book. All marks are in pencil and actually there are very few markings within the text. All pages and the binding are fully intact. There are no dog eared pages, rips, or tears. The cover remains in very good condition with minor expected wear at the corners. The book was part of a group of little textbooks called; "The Lake English Classics" edited by Lindsey Todd Damon, then a Professor of English at Brown University. This edition also "edited for school use" by William Allan Nielson, the President then of Smith College. A nice little treasure of Poetry for the romantic!
