This book was ALICE MILLER'S FIRST BOOK TO BE ADAPTED TO FILM. Alice Duer Miller was a prolific writer who published numerous novels between 1896 and 1940. She was a campaigner for the women's suffrage movement. Many of her novels were adapted to plays and movies. This novel "MANSLAUGHTER" was originally published in 1921 and this edition,1923. The general plot of the story is that of a spoiled young rich woman who is accidentally responsible for a police officers death when her automobile strikes his motorcycle. The conflict and turmoil she experiences during her trial and imprisonment are life changing. This hardback book has a previous owners name in pencil along with the date 1923. The book is illustrated with pictures from the "Photo Play." All pages are intact. Page 105 AND 106 have a wrinkle that has apparently been there for years. The outside binding is intact. Near the center of the inside, page 123, the pages looks like they could begin to move away from the binding without good care but do remain intact at this time.
