William Belfour Ker was a renowned artist born in Canada in 1877. He lived much of his life in the United States and expired in 1918. His artwork, including his oil paintings, were generally scenes of people doing things ranging from romantic ventures to political statements. Many of Norman Rockwell's works are somewhat reminiscent of Belfour Ker's illustrations. William Belfour Ker illustrated many covers for Life Magazine in the early 1900's. His works are often found as lithograph illustrations of novels. The back of this framed print identifies it as part of the "Belfour Ker Series--A Collection of Gems after the Popular Artist....Series No.532." This portrait print depicts a romantic Victorian courting couple--young and in love--with a game of checkers pushed to the side. The caption reads: "The voice of the chaperon from the other room: Who's winning? He (answers) I think I am." The lithograph remains sealed and the glass without injury. The framed print remains in Excellent condition with only wear and peeling of the paper covered frame concentrated in the bottom left corner (see photo) with similar, but much less, wear in the bottom right corner. This framed print measures 5" x 7".
