I just love this needlepoint!! Originally from a long border, this is the last piece I have of it...most likely a tapestry border at one time..fabulous colors and I am dating it at pre 1850, might be earlier, I am being modest. Here is a gorgeous antique 19thc French small pelmet featuring a luxurious deep purple silk velvet fabric embroidered with a sweet floral design. There is a cream silk header that has some fray..not bad..and a cream chenille border trimming all around. It also has 4 chenille covered wooden bobbles on bottom, with metallic lace which has somewhat deteriorated but still pretty (the wood shows through on the bobbles in other words)...unlined. Here is a delightful applique from a vestment originally. The soft roses in the center of the piece have been delicately stitched in petitpoint..so tiny...this is actually needlepoint with petitpoint. Dated from c.1910 or earlier with gold metallic trim along sides. The ground is a pretty eggshell white. Only a very smidgeon of stitchloss.
