SOLD Cuerves (Poetry) de Paul Verlaine

SOLDSOLD Cuerves (Poetry) de Paul Verlaine

Books:Antique:Paul Verlaine, Poesies, Ca 1910, Hand Painted Spine On Vellum
This is only the second volume I have bought (the 1st was an ivory prayer book) that was not written in English. This book is such a beautiful work of art, though, that I had to have it. It has marbled boards for front and back, and vellum spine and corners, The amazing thing about this volume though, is that the spine is hand painted, with a couple walking off amid the flowers. I don't think I have ever seen a book with a hand painted spine before. The fronts and endspieces are also marbled, ...

SOLDSOLD Church of England Prayerbook , Ivory, Victorian

Books:Antique:Church Of England Prayerbook, Ivory, 1870
This quite an interesting prayerbook. I was told, when I purchased it in England, that it was ivory, and I believe it to be, but it has a sort of plastic cover, inside the brass binding, which may well have been added later to protect the ivory. Anyway, the book is in very good shape, and it is dated, 1870, It has gilded pages, brass clasp, and measures almost 5 inches North to South, 3 and 1/2 inches East to West, and is 1 inch and 1/4 thick.

The famed Romantic poet's name is tooled in gold, both on the front and the back of the volume, and the title is tooled in gold on the spine. The volume is illustrated with steel engravings, and it is in very good shape for it's 146 years. The pages are yellowed, but all are intact ...
