This belt buckle was found in an old sewing kit with the hand typed noted. The note is dated June, 1942. It attributes the buckle to a cashmere coat made by one Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Monson Corbet for her son, Joseph Wallwork Corbet, 'probably in the fall of 1876.' The buckle was worn on summer dresses by his sisters in later years. The buckle itself is a single piece of carved Mother of Pearl, 3 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide. The brass prongs are welded to the cross piece set into the matrix. I have not made any attempt to clean this. The typed note will be included in the shipping.
