Late 19th century gilded bronze clock in beautiful original, clean and bright condition, the movement by maker Japy Freres and has the maker's 'Grande Medaille D'Honneur' mark on the movement back plate. The style is classic Rococo; with simple case lines, scroll and acanthus feet and topped with urn and garland finial flanked by two handles. The enamel on copper dial a white background with black lettering / numbering interspersed with floral garlands and gold stars, the star-burst center complete with original finely fretted gilt brass hands, and with original suspending Louis XIV “sun king” style pendulum. All encased in beveled glass, with hinged back and front doors.
Condition of the case is very good, however it appears that over ambitious cleaning has resulted in some losses to the gilding on the top of the case (below the finial) and also on the lower front of the base. The dial in excellent condition, with only a minor chip to the enamel below the number VI . In very good working condition.
8 day run on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a bell.
