These two desks came from the Frankfort,Kentucky Federal Court House. The building was built in the early 1880's and served as a Federal Court and Jail. The smaller desk was the clerks desk.
The larger desk was the judge's bench. They feature wonderful paneled construction. Both pieces are made entirely of quarter sawn oak. The finish is very good on each, I believe they were restored somewhere in the past.
The writing surface's are original and appear to be of a lacquered sailcloth material. There is some distress and lifting on these surfaces but as for the age they are quite acceptable.
The Judge's bench had two light fixtures mounted on either end of the desk top at one time. You can see the circular outline and a hole drilled in the top where the electric ran for these lights.
I think that these are substantial architectural examples and would work great to complete an office reception area or work station.
Clerk's desk 32"x69"x31"high.
Judge's Bench 26"x109"x31"high.
