Rare, mid 19th Century desk by E. S. Tarr (multiple signatures), N. Gay Street, Baltimore, Maryland. Matched flame and solid mahogany; ripple moldings throughout; desk drawer below inset marble top; four paneled doors across base; ogee feet; large set back central mirrored door (ogee molded with open carved Gothic arch); large ogee and molded flared crest; ogee and paneled side cabinets with cut out floral finial crests; fitted interiors; 90" tall by 67" wide by 20" deep; 30" writing surface; excellent condition; no key to locks. The date of purchase (October 6, 1859) and the purchase price of $176 are inscribed in pencil on the inside of one drawer.
