This is an English fruit knife in excellent condition. These were often carried and used for cutting fruit. The blades are always sterling silver. This one, as does most, has a mother-of-pearl handle, and there are no cracks. The handle has a nice pattern of fruit embossed in the pearl, though this was a little hard to photograph due to flash glare. Open, this knife measures 5 inches long from the tip to the end of the handle. The handle, at its widest point, measures 1/2 of an inch wide. It's hallmarks are all clear, and declare the piece to be British sterling, made in Birmingham in the year 1863, by the makers "GU". The Queen's head mark is also present.
