This is a great memorial/mourning ring which has it all. First we have a sepia painting, in great condition, of a Georgian lady, standing by the tomb with the urn on top. There is a black enamel surround in great condition, which reads: "Hanh (Hannah) Leonard, ob 24 Feb, 1780, AE 55." Besides the fact that we have the black enamel in great condition, there is also a hair pocket on the back of the ring with great hairwork, surrounded by lovely, gold chasing. I haven't seen any of the sepia's with the hairpocket on the back--enamel rings yes--but usually the sepia rings are just engraved, with perhaps hair ground up in the sepia paint, so this is unusual. The ring is a size 6, and could not be resized. It could be made smaller with a ring guard, but it could not be cut down. The top of the ring measures 7/8 of an inch North to South, and 5/8 of an inch East to West.
