This bank has been 'distressed' so that it doesn't seen so much the brand new, blobby faced, newly painted item it really is. The intent is to make the new paint job seem shabby, with wear similar to that which one would expect to see on a truly old painted, cast iron still bank. And even though a modern domed head screw holds the halves together this new bank is often found described as still having most of its 'original paint.'
Note the visible rough grinding marks at the seams. These marks are the signature of the modern power tool. Finishing marks on an authentically old Hubley piece would be practically non-existent or nearly invisible.
These rough and fat looking modern imported reproduction 'Sailor' banks can be purchased for around $5 each. So, don't over pay if you just want to own one for fun.
This item measures approximately 5 inches tall by 2 1/2 inches wide.
