Heubach Bisque Boy Doll with Vintage Clothes

This example is a modern reproduction boy doll created from a mold taken from an authentic Heubach model. Made of bisque porcelain he is jointed at arms, legs, and neck. He is dressed in an obviously handmade outfit consisting of cotton pants and shirt. This doll is not old and everything from the bisque head to the body and clothing was produced by a modern doll artist.

Many antique dolls originally made by many different companies have been copied and are still being copied. Some reproductions are very, very good and may be easily mistaken for an authentic piece by a collector new to this particular niche. Markings one would expect to find being present on a doll are not always the best indicator of authenticity, since if an authentic piece is used to make a mold any incised marks that were present on it may also be copied. However, if a doll should be marked, but it is not, this characteristic is generally a very good indicator of a lack of originality and questions should be asked as to why an original maker's marks are not present.
