Exceptional Black Velvet Evening Cape with Rabbit Fur Collar - 1940's

Through the years I have had many velvet evening capes but this one is the best. It is probably from the 1940's and the velvet is so very soft and supple - unlike the velvet made today. The label inside says Chandler & Company Boston. I would say it is probably a size medium - perhaps fitting size 10, 12 and 14. It has no armholes. You just slip it on, button the one button at the top if you wish and you are good to go. The fabric around the shoulders is gathered so that the shoulder is defined when you are wearing the cape. (I wish I could show you this detail but the camera won't pick it up.) There are no shoulder pads but this makes the cape hang beautifully. There are no pockets so you will need an evening bag. It measures about 40 1/2" from the neck to the hem at the back. I measured 17" down from the shoulder seam and then across the back and it is about 27 1/2" so that would be about 55" all the way around. It is lined with black. If for some reason you don't like the fur collar, the collar is lined with the black velvet and I am sure a dressmaker could remove the fur and turn the collar so it is black velvet instead. This is an elegant garment, perfect for the opera or a formal occasion. It is in excellent condition. I do not see anything wrong with it.
