A circa mid 1940's Royal Hickman Chartreuse Petty Glaze amoeba free form oblong bowl. Measuring three inches tall by seven wide by thirteen inches long, this mod yellow / green dish has a free form amoeba shape. Marked with his name and the number 592, it is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks and normal crazing. The design is indicative of Hickman and perfect for a mid century decor or a collector.
First as a metal sculptor and potter in California, then on to Illinois, Royal Hickman worked for Haeger until 1944, but continued to contribute additional designs to the firm during the 1950s on a freelance basis. He operated studio art potteries, in Tennessee and Florida in the 40's and 50's. Hickman also designed crystal animal figurines for the Heisey Glass Company.
