A pastel on board study after Listed artist John Hassall (1868 - 1948) United Kingdom and USA, titled "Man Seated Wearing A Blue Turban". Measuring approximately thirteen inches by seventeen inches overall, this colorful modernistic piece is from the early 1900's. Known for illustration, watercolor and ink drawing, worked in advertising for fifty years and opened his own New Art School and School of Poster Design in Kensington. Hassall has signed this piece on the lower right, framed in a circa 1920's wood frame and is in excellent antique condition.

From AskArt:

John Hassall, the son of a naval officer, was born in Walmer, Kent, England in 1868. He studied art in Antwerp and Paris at the Academie Julien, 1894. He eventually became a full-time illustrator, designing posters and children's books. He created the poster for the Belgian Canal Boat Fund, which was an attempt to raise money in order to send food, clothing and medical aid to civilians living in Allied controlled Belgium. Hassall died in 1948.
