"Summertime and the living is easy, Fish are jumpin', and the cotton is high...-George Gershwin
Ferdinand Hodler, Swiss (1853 - 1918) known as an Art Nouveau Painter and Lithographer, was one of the best-known Swiss artists of the 19th century. Hodler's work influenced the expressionists of the next generation.
It is signed and sealed in the lower right corner. The lettering reads Betender Krieger on the left, Ferdinand Hodler in the center, and Guerrier en priere on the right. It is framed in a period frame and measures approximately eleven inches by twenty four inches overall. Archival preservation would be appropriate for this piece, there is scattered foxing in the margins, but the image is in overall very good antique condition.
