Royal Hickman Ebony Cascade Petty Crystal Glaze Planter

Being offered is a circa mid to late 1940's Royal Hickman planter vase. Done in an ebony with a white cascade and blue and brown undertones the Petty Crystal Glaze gives an overall steel gray appearance. This vase is marked with the number 539, USA, and Royal Hickman. Measuring approximately four and one half inches high by nine inches across, it is in excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks or crazing. The design is indicative of Hickman and perfect for a mid century decor or a collector. First as a metal sculptor and potter in California, then on to Illinois, Royal Hickman worked for Haeger until 1944, but continued to contribute additional designs to the firm during the 1950s on a freelance basis. He operated studio art potteries, in Tennessee and Florida in the 40's and 50's. Hickman also designed crystal animal figurines for the Heisey Glass Company.
