A very handsome circa 1912 - 1915 Gentleman's Landers Frary & Clark intricately Engraved Silver Folding Knife. Marked Universal across the main blade and LF&C USA 1303 at the tangs, it measures approximately three inches long. The handle is pristine showing no wear. A cleaning, oiling and sharpening is in order for the tools, but both blades and the file open easily and pivot freely.
L.F. & C. was formed in 1862 when the firm of Landers and Smith purchased Frary and Carey. Manufacturing of pocket knives began at the New Britain, Connecticut facility in 1912. One of the most common trademarks used was Universal. From 1931- 1939 they made official Scout knives also under the Universal trademark.
