Hand Thrown Rookwood Pottery Floor Vase Dated 1917

This 16 1/2" tall vase is in outstanding excellent plus condition! It is a lovely neutral shade of a purple toned taupe that reminds me of Moroccan leather furniture, with an aqua high glaze interior that really pops as an accent. Note the four hand applied handles reaching upwards from the vase shoulders to it's neck, very unusual in Rookwood. Also approx. 4 1/2" down to approx 7" down from the top rim are a series of horizontal lightly rounded, graceful rings around the vase (photo # 7). These rings were deliberately left when the vase was hand thrown as an Arts and Crafts accent. I took several photos & this was my best result. The vase has no cracks, chips, nicks, deep scratches, crazing or repairs. Even the top & base rim are all original. Just outstanding condition in a floor vase of any size. I did find a few very, very light scuff like abrasions. I took a slightly over exposed photo of the largest one (photo # 8). The marks are on the base (photo # 9). The Roman numerals are the date mark for 1917, underneath is impressed the model #. We do not know what the extra "P" is for. The top rim is approx. 4 1/8" dia & the base rim approx. 5 1/4" in dia. The widest point of vase was extremely hard to measure but is approx. 8 1/4". It also has a very substantial weight. On my bathroom scale it is approx. 15 pounds. A very attractive vase that would fit in well with today's colors of home decor. I can easily see it with dried grasses or cattails in any room of your home. Or leave it empty & let it be a high point in your pottery collection.
