In 25 years of doing compacts this was a never seen for Rich. The top is a reversed painted ship on some form of clear plastic/vinyl which is on top of faux guilloche enamel made of what we believe to be a foil. Very inventive! It has a zipper closure & a cloth backside. The interior cup for powder & interior top that holds the mirror are a very strong, dense form of what we believe to be cardboard. This circa 1940 compact is in excellent plus condition. It is comprised of a yellow base metal (probable brass) that has a glossy gold plate finish. The exterior plate is brite & glossy with just an occasional speck of discoloration. The push button is a duller bronze color & may never have been plated as it's post has no plate also. It does have an occasional disruption to the silver surface color as visible when looking at outer circular rims & the soldiers collar. This circa 1925 compact has a lot going on inside & out! It's exterior has lovely pattern work in the base metal on it's top, back & sides. Then it has black & white enamel work of flowers thru out the top with an accent of an enamel applied floral plaque. The enamel plaque is in excellent condition. I love this circa 1940 figural compact's multi colored gold & textured top. Both the front & back hearts are a satin like finish in a gold color. This circa 1950 compact is so clever. It's figural shape is a lady's vanity table. But when you fold up the legs it is a slim rectangle for easy fit in a purse. It appears to be a gold tone base metal (possibly brass) that has been gold plated. This chrome compact has a lot going on! The top of it's front & entire backside is striped. The front has a 2 tone, floral patterned, ridged circle that is accented with an applied enamel hand painted disk. The side rims also have a pattern cast into the metal.
