This Art Nouveau piece has the shape of a ginger jar, and was used as a hair receiver, with the lid having a central circular opening, gold trimmed and surrounded by a striated dome that leads to four faux jewels, 2 pink and two black, gilded and trimmed with green and pink beading. A turquoise shade covers the striations in front of the lid.
The cameo of the female face is beautifully designed with ornamental accents in her hair and around her head, and appears on the front and back of the jar.
The base is marked with the Schafer and Vater crown insignia and what appears to be 4947 and a 3 stamp. The lavender jasperware is hued with green and the condition is excellent, with only the characteristic undulations and light pitting characteristic of these antique handmade bisque porcelain pieces. Some wear to the gold trim.
Dimensions are 4 inches tall with a 12 inch central circumference and rim diameter of 2.25 inches, and footed base diameter of 2.5 inches
Item ID: R398
