Lots of great old sewing items! See below for info on photo @ right.
Stickware is a type of Tunbridge ware design, made by hand assembling and gluing together sticks of contrasting woods in bundles. They could then be turned on a lathe for a wonderfully decorative design which could be incorporated into sewing tools and many other small items.
This antique sewing item was used for two different purposes. The top, in it's original rich purple velvet, is an emery, and used to sharpen and clean steel needles, removing hand oils which remained on needles when they were used.
Thread was run across the wax in the central section of this waxer, which strengthened the thread and made it easier to sew through fabric.
This waxer/emery is in Very Good Condition, showing slight expected use wear to the velvet emery.
Height is 1-1/2", width is !".
