Antique Book 1904 First Edition * Chuggins by Irving Handcock

Many times through the years I would buy an old book for the cover. I never enjoyed books with the dust jacket. I do not think this one had a dust jacket. It appears to be a First Edition. Published in 1904 by Henry Altemus Company , Philadelphia. 7 1/2 inches tall, 5 1/8 inches wide. It has 96 pages ( the last page lists other books available ). The author is Irving Hancock , the illustrator is J.C. Claghorn. It has a lovely color glossy frontispiece. The original owner must has received this book as a gift because their name along with Christmas 1907 is hand written in pencil inside the book. The inside back cover of the book has a few very light pencil marks . The first page inside has a bottom corner chip, minor but there. The hard cover book corners are lightly bumped but still square not rounded. The story is of a youth who walked from his home in Vermont , worked his passage on a troopship , sailing from Florida to Cuba to serve with the American Troops in Cuba. All illustrations except the cover and frontispiece are black and white. This particular issue of the book is hard to find due to the type flowers on the cover. *** Remember , insurance is optional.
