This exquisite cameo brooch was skillfully carved from carnelian shell to render this charming lady in magnificent detail. The features of her lovely face are perceptible, even down to her eyebrows and nostrils. A gondola or other boat of some kind is visible in the background.

This lovely cameo is bezel set in a marked 18K gold mount. The gold setting has a fold down bail, allowing the cameo brooch to also be worn as a pendant.

The cameo brooch is I inch high (1 ¼ inches high with bail) and is ¾ inch across. It is in outstanding condition.

The back of the brooch is signed by the cameo carver. The setting is annotated “750,” marking it as 18K gold in the European style. The setting also bears markers marks of a star symbol and “228 NA.”
