Antique Meyle & Mayer Sterling Enamel Depose Dragonfly Brooch Pin

This exquisite dragon fly brooch is by renowned makers Meyle and Mayer, of Pforzheim, Germany. Made of sterling silver with a pale gold vermeil wash, the delicate piece features cobalt blue vitreous glass (kiln-fired) enamel on its wings and body. The wings have a guilloche texture that lends depth and dimension. The eyes are small red cabochons of glass or possibly garnet, but have not been tested.

The piece dates to around 1900, when Meyle and Mayer showed their products at the World Fair in Paris and incorporated art nouveau style in their work.

The insect measures 1 7/8" tall by 1 5/8" across. The back has a simple c-clasp and is signed "Sterling Depose" along with the imprinted mark for Meyle and Mayer, a dragonfly. The piece is in very good condition, with only two or three small superficial flakes in the enamel topcoat on the wings.
