Welcome to the Kit 'n Caboodle Den!
The trunk dates back to the late 19th century, and would have been used by a lady (or perhaps an adolescent girl) for traveling. The inside of the lid has a pretty lithograph print of a woman with a pole standing in a boat.
The trunk is missing its original tray insert. The leather handles are long gone, as is one of the two latches on the front. However, the great thing about this trunk is that its flaws are cosmetic only, and can be easily fixed. Its structural integrity is perfect, and there is no mold or mildew; the wooden staves are intact, as well.
This piece just needs a small amount of TLC (or, if you're inclined, a complete overhaul - we prefer to keep items in their original condition, having heard too many horror stories of the value of pieces being destroyed by "restoration"). It is a wonderful conversation piece, and could be used for blanket or crafts storage, or even as a toy box for a little princess.
Shipping within the United States is included at no additional charge. Please let us know if you are in the Boston area and would like to pick the trunk up, as we can certainly negotiate the price a bit to accommodate you.
