A really quite adorable letter holder designed to hang on the wall made from solid English Oak with a decorative brass plate to the front.

The brass is pierced or reticulated with floral and foliate engraving at either end and at the top engraved " Letters ".

Every smart home, hotel or club had one of these collection points for letters, a member of staff would collect the mail and take to the post office ... quite civilized!!

There is a small brass bracket at the top to aid with wall hanging.

Dating to around 1880, this piece of Victorian history remains in superb condition and measures 8" x 5 1/2" x 2 1/2" at deepest.
