I am fairly sure this wonderful Victorian Oak box was made as a fine biscuit box but could equally have been a tea caddy and could even be used as one today.
The solid wood is enhanced by wonderful all-round silver fittings including four ball feet and two swing handles, one either side.
The lid is a sensation with engraved decoration and an important finial which is used to open the the lid. The interior too is silver plated, nice and clean and ready for use.
There is a shield shaped mount to the front which is vacant and could be engraved if desired.
A rare and hard to find box dating to around 1870 and in superb condition; measuring 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" x 9" tall to top of finial.
