The box opens to create a sloped writing slope and the other side reveals a blotting surface and the original inkwell and mahogany lidded pen compartment. This compartment contains a propelling pencil (not sure if it works), a case of pencil leads, a folding ruler and a few other bits.

This section opens again (hence, double action) which reveals a stationery rack and a compartment for all sorts of papers.

Dating to the late Victorian era, it remains in excellent condition (alas, no key) and rather charming to have some interesting contents.

When closed the box measures 8 1/2" x 7" x 2 3/4" tall.
