An exceptional and rare example of a George III tea caddy dating to around 1790 / 1800 and made from solid Mahogany in the form of a charming Chest of Drawers or Dresser.
The work at the front is exquisite with the edges around the drawers carved out to look quite realistic, the knobs are solid cast brass and the little escutcheon is Ivory (alas, no key).
The hinged lid is cross-banded around the edge, exactly as the furniture would have been.
When opened, the interior is in wonderful original condition with complete lock and hinges and the original paper lining. The interior would never have had a loose lid as many caddies do, it can be seen that the lip from the hinged lid sits in ledge below.
A wonderful and highly collectible period caddy in excellent condition. Measuring 4 1/2" tall with the top measuring 4 1/4" x 3 3/4".
