Apart from being stunning to look out, this would be a perfect box to keep candy or something similar.
Dating to the mid-Victorian period, this wonderful top-notch small lidded tureen has a wonderfully executed organic finial on the top, truly beautifully crafted.
The interior is gilded. There is a fabulous engraved armorial crest of a lion waving a flag above a crown, very regal and so British.
The underside has a clear hallmark for the quality silversmith Elkington and Mason.
Excellent condition, some surface wear to the interior, mentioned for accuracy. Measures 9" handle to handle x 4 3/4" deep x 6" tall.
I have recently been informed that this is the crest to the coat of arms of Lieutenant- General Sir Harry Smith, Baronet of Aliwal, Knight Grand Cross Order of the Bath.
