An outstanding beauty, this box is covered in exquisite tortoiseshell with a rich tapestry markings from golden champagne to deep chocolate brown; and everything in between.

The lid is mounted with two intricate and highly decorative silver mounts which were at one time gold washed (silver gilt); the gold is has worn with age giving it a most beautiful two-tone patina.

Each silver mount is clearly hallmarked for Birmingham 1886, together with the makers mark P & J; a true Victorian piece.

The escutcheon is made from creamy ivory, the original hinges and lock are intact but alas there is no key. The interior is lined in a rich green silk and velvet.

A truly exceptional heirloom investment, measuring 7 3/4" x 6", this large box really makes a statement. Excellent condition.
