Dating to the late 19th century, around 1880 or 1890, this is a quality and highly decorative postage scale. Every smart residence would have had one during this period when letter writing was at it's most fashionable.

The beautiful base is cast solid brass, heavy and wonderful quality with a floral and foliate pattern. There are three chambers in the front to house the five brass weights 4oz down to 1/4oz.

The pan panel is engraved with the "Postal Rates For Letters / Not Exceeding 4oz - 1d / 6oz - 11/2d / 8oz - 2d. The arm below is marked "Warrented Accurate".

Excellent condition measuring 9" x 5 1/4" x 3 3/4".
