The top has an inlaid brass shield-shaped plaque / cartouche, which could be engraved if desired.
The interior is lined in a gold tooled leather writing panel, both sides lift up for storage underneath. When the divider between one of the inkwell chambers and the sloped nib compartment is lifted this releases the sprung panel at the back to reveal two secret drawers.
A superb large desk complete with original Bramah lock and key in excellent condition, there is a hairline age crack to the veneer on the top that does not detract but mentioned for accuracy.
When closed the writing box measures 15 3/4" x 9 1/2" x 6" tall.
