A lovely billet doux, made from turned wood, hand painted and varnished in colours, featuring a Lady, well dressed, and a bird, in a forest landscape. Made in 2 parts, each ending with a round bone plaque, inner is turned bone. That kind of fine letter case was gift for young ladies, to prevent them refusing the love letter... On inner bone part you can see a collector's mark. Dimensions: 5-1/2ins x -3/4in. Condition is Good! carefully inspected: no chip, no broken or glued parts, we only have to mention a light hairline on wood, and a tiny chip on inner bone part, fast nothing, please see on our detailed pictures, click on, as each is enlarging! French fine working, dating from end of 18th Century or early 19thc, an authentic item that we fully guarantee.
