For their age, the Sconces are in excellent condition. The gilded brass over iron is in good shape and the beveled mirrors have no silver loss. The Sconces measure 16" tall x 9 1/2" wide with three candle holders. The candle holders are scalloped and have holes for prisms ( no prisms available).
An extravagant Rococo design of scrollwork, grapevines, and small clusters of grapes surround the figure of Bacchus at the center top. The head of Bacchus at the top represents the Mythology god of wine.
These late 19th century Brass Sconces were made by Bradley and Hubbard Manufacturer Co. ( 1852 - 1940 ) Meriden, Connecticut. They were masters of metalwork. The Sconces are marked on the backside with a molded B & H mark. Also molded numbers 3504 and 3509 appear on each side. The Sconces are heavy gilded cast metal of high quality. Behind the Bacchus head on the back is an indentation with the metal hanging circle. Also on the back there is a cover plate for the mirror.
This is a beautiful pair of solid ,in great condition, late 19th century antique Wall Sconces with lovely beveled mirrors to add elegance to any wall.
