Royal Shield Ceylon And India Tea Canister

Offered here is this large tea tin manufactured in Canada and dates to the late teens or early 1920's. Royal Shield was the brand name for spices sold by grocery concern Campbell Brothers and Wilson. The first branch was formed in Winnipeg in 1890 and new branches were opened further west as the new century unfolded.

This tin is colorfully lithographed with royal blue, red and gold predominating. The front lettering and side decoration is highlighted in repousse`. It measures 7 7/8" high, 6 3/4" wide and 5" deep. This tin can be found on page 145 of the 3rd edition of the Thompson book Canadian Country Store Collectables.

The tin has paint loss as shown, as well as some minor denting to the lid. The only other thing to note is 2 small holes, one on the lid and the other to the front, as shown in the last photo. Harder to find tin for the collector.
