Nautical Door Knocker - Edwardian

This door knocker was put together around the start of C20th. The main component, a small bronze barrel from a swivel cannon, was cast long before, possibly two hundred years earlier. It measures 9 1/2" in length, with a bore of 1/2" and an external diameter varying between 5/8" and 1 1/8". Unlike heavy cannons whose broadsides often sunk enemy fleets, swivel guns were used defensively on naval vessels against attacking personnel.. Their small size, and this barrel was from a particularly small one, gave them a valuable portability allowing movement within the ship to positions of most danger. Condition just great.
