Although not strictly a pair these two early bottles are as near dammit identical. One is 10 3/4" high, the other 11". Glass with added cobalt oxide first appeared in Bristol late in C18th. The deep bright blue this produced quickly became very popular and led to an invitation to exhibit at the Great Exhibition of 1851. We date these two stylish examples to round about 1825. This pair of 1 3/4" riding boot sheaths date from around 1850 when hall marking was not as widespread as today. Hence their description as white metal as white metal - notwithstanding they have been tested as silver. They are a most realistic pair of boots with their "Norah Batty" wrinkles above the ankles. They even sport minute spurs. They have a certain amount of wear, but this is quite appropriate for their age & use. The dings and dongs can be seen clearly in the accompanying photo shots. ...
