This is a BEAUTIFULLY handpainted portrait of a Nude Woman with an eye to the Art Nouveau movement. The Art Nouveau influence can be seen in the flowing, curvilinear lines of the feminine form incorporated with the stylized plant-inspired background scenery and the head wreath of dainty daisies. The palate is very demure in tones of gray and blue, a perfect foil to the pale skin tones of this young beauty. The quality of the unnamed artist can be seen in the portrayal of this beautiful young woman, though she is nude, there is nothing prurient about her pose. Her form is an expression of rounded curves and flowing lines. Her face is beautiful, her expression gentle and sporting a slight smile. Her eyes are downcast, and her head is tilted to the side. Her long flowing wavy brunette hair is "au natural", and softly lays about her shoulders. This young beauty's alabaster skin tone on this work of art is something to behold - this was truly done by an artist of the first caliber. The daisy wreath resting on her brow is the perfect adornment, simple and pretty. This is a very beautiful scene of a private moment in nature.
The plaque is marked with Jean POUYAT (JP/L) mark #5, underglaze white ware mark in green, with "FRANCE", ca. 1890 - 1932.
